Part C: You, the Student.

Discuss an “Aha” from the Creative Writing class.

An “Aha” from Creative Writing class was the progression of my poetic voice and poetry in general. I always refrained from writing poetry because I could never portray exactly what I was thinking or feeling – which frustrated me. However, my “Aha” came when I realized that I had nothing to be afraid about because poetry challenges everybody until you practice and hone your skill.

What have you accomplished as a reader? What is your PLAN to read next?

This semester, I started to get back into the groove and rhythm of reading – which was something I haven’t done since grade 8. I started to read for enjoyment. I like to think that I have regained a part of my identity – “A Reader.”

On my blog,  I have compiled a list of the books that I would love to read 🙂 Take a peek here: ephemerallove.edublogs.org/reading/reading-wishlist

Discuss the best book you read this semester.

The best book I read this semester was Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Memoirs of a Geisha is such a beautiful and lyrical piece that completely enveloped me. I aspire to write a piece as beautiful as Golden does. Memoirs of a Geisha is my favorite because it intertwined some of my favorite genres – bildungsroman and historical fiction.

How does reading improve your writing?

Reading improves writing because when you read a book you are discovering another author’s style and voice which can be incorporated into your own writing or synergized with your own.

What have you accomplished as a writer? What is your PLAN to write next?

As a writer, I have come to realize that writing is for yourself and not for anyone else – which is an accomplishment because it eliminates the fear associated with sharing your pieces with others. I plan to continue to use this blog; however, I most likely won’t be publishing full fleshed-out posts but instead, posting or creating a page where I can post my poetry which is a growing interest of mine. I also want to write in my journal every night sustain and improve upon my writing in terms of voice and style.

Will you take Creative Writing again? Why? Why not

HECK YEAH, I will be taking Creative Writing next year because it has transformed my writing skills – it has been a privilege to have a writing class all year long, and not be interrupted by the sciences or maths.

What are your next steps to improve as a writer?
  • read everything and anything for at least 20 minutes a day
  • write for 10 minutes every day (at least)
  • keep up with my blog
